Cartoons, and why I love them

I'm sure by now that many of you have already heard about the recent Supreme Court ruling. It's a great breakthrough for LGBT people, but Terri already covered it, and probably covered it better than I could. So, hop over to her post if you want to read about it.
What I'm going to talk about, is cartoons. Many of you might say, oh, cartoons, how childish. What does it matter if they are? Does everything in life have to be serious? Am I not allowed to relax and shut down my brain at some point in my day?

                                        (Also, Fuck you)
The answers are no, it doesn't, and yes I am. Many of them also have adult themes in them, subtly hidden so children don't notice them, but not so much that I don't. The show Rocko's  Modern Life has more masturbation jokes than a high school classroom. Rocko's favorite game is punch the weasel. It doesn't even try to hide them. Other shows also do it, like Cow and Chicken, or one of my favorites, Ren and Stimpy.
One show I really like right now is Teen Titans. It is a show about five "teenagers" with some form of powers, be it superpowers or ninja like abilities. I admit, it is a lot less dark than the comics, which I love, but for its medium, it was great. There was violence, slapstick humor, relate-able characters, and even outright betrayal. Each character had their own story, strengths, flaws, and emotions, and as the show progressed, they changed.

Another was Samurai Jack.It was about a Japanese samurai, who, just as he was about to beat his arch nemesis, Aku, he was flung into the far future, where evil is rife, and Aku is ruler. The show is about his travels, and it tries to stay true to the samurai movies, despite censorship. Instead of human enemies, he fought robots and monsters. Instead of blood, there was oil and goo. It really was  a great show.

But in life all things are fleeting. Cartoon network canceled all of these shows, despite high  ratings in the teen demographic, and the fact that the animators enjoyed making them. It really was a dick move. They did similar things to the shows Generator Rex ans Symbiotic Titan, which I also enjoyed.
What they replaced the shows with was far worse than if they had simply canceled them. When they created Teen Titans Go, I had a brief hope that the series would be continued. Nope. Just some stupid kids show with the same character names and no adult themes. What did I expect? Their main demographic is children after all.
Similar to cartoons is anime, which is awesome, but it would take to long to talk about it. Just know that is is very diverse, and most of it is awesome. Especially Death Note.

TL;DR
Fuck Cartoon Network
